How to Figure Out Their Ring Size Without Ruining the Surprise 💍

We get it—popping the question is nerve-wracking enough without adding “guess their ring size” to the list. But don’t worry, at Agapé Jewellers we’ve got a few different methods to help figure our their finger size. 

1. Borrow a Ring They Already Wears

If they have a ring they wears on her left-hand ring finger, you’ve struck gold. If they wear rings on a different finger, take note of exactly which finger it’s from (because each finger is a different size) and bring it to us. We can guestimate their size based on which finger they wear the ring on. 

We can measure it precisely in-store, or if you can’t sneak it away for long, simply trace the inside circle on paper. You can also download and print our ring size chart, then place the ring over it for a quick match.

2. Recruit an Ally

Sometimes, a little help from the inside makes all the difference. Ask a trusted friend, sibling, or parent to take her “just for fun” ring shopping and note the size.

This works especially well if the friend is genuinely shopping for jewellery—they can casually try on rings together and slip the question in without raising suspicion.

Or let us be your ally, give us a heads up when they'll be coming in and we can suggest we measure he finger "for future reference" and they'll be none the wiser we're in on it. 

3. Compare on Your Own Finger

This one’s surprisingly effective: slip one of her rings onto your own finger and see where it stops. Mark that spot (a pen mark works just fine), then bring your finger to us—we can measure it to the exact size.

4. Go Larger, Not Smaller

If you have to guess, size slightly up. Resizing a larger ring down is much easier than making a too-small ring fit. And remember—when you order a custom engagement ring with us, we offer complimentary resizing (up to 3 sizes) to make sure it’s perfect.
